Tip #1: Get Closer
The most common mistake made by photographers is that they are not physically close enough to their subjects. In some cases this means that the center of interest—the subject—is just a speck, too small to have any impactTip #2: Try Standing By a Corner
As an alternative to standing in the middle of nowhere, you might want to actually use a building or wall in your shot. In this circumstance your first instinct is to focus on the wall, but that might not work too well depending on your depth-of-field.
Tip #3: Capture You
My last tip is to use the images below only loosely as inspiration. A self-portrait should be a very personal expression, not simply a mirror of something you've seen elsewhere. Think about who you want to be and how you want to say that. Use props, scenery, pose and lighting conditions to convey your personality
Environmental Portrait
I like this photo because it shows a nice, very focused black and white picture of this old man here, i picked it because this photo is great quality and it says 1,000 words.

I like this picture because i can tell this man loves photograph and does it professionally. His eye is like the lens of a camera, he sees it all.
For my portrait assignment I'm thinking of shooting a picture of myself. I want to take it in the gymnasium because its has the most space and colors. To make this successful ill make sure i have it set to the rights setting and i apply the rules & elements properly.
